Types of Verruca Treatment

Treatment varies depending on various factors, eg. Type, size, number, location, age of patient, patients occupation etc. At Wigan Chiropody Practice we offer various treatments to suit you, and the type of verruca. * Cryotherapy.- (freezing). At Orrell Chiropody Practice we use liquid nitrogen, the best, important as it is the coldest at –196 degrees centigrade. The freeze is usually applied via a probe; this minimizes the trauma to the surrounding area and allows for a deeper penetration of freeze. It may also be applied as a spray. * Caustic therapy - these are applied usually on a weekly basis, and are much stronger and more effective than you can purchase from a pharmacist. You will have a dressing over the verrucae for 5 days, and you must keep it dry. You will then return after 7 days. This is usually repeated for three weeks. Some verrucae may take longer, eg large crops. * Electrosurgery - this is performed under local anaesthesia, so there is no pain during the procedure. This method of treatment destroys the infected cells in one treatment. Post-operatively there may be some discomfort, which can be managed by over-the-counter analgesics
