Selecting Christmas Toys

You have to be careful with Christmas toys as gifts for children - consider the rest of the family, too. When I was two, among my christmas toys were a tin drum and a toy saxophone. For some reason, that tin drum disappeared quite soon after. Now I am older, I can understand how a metal object like that could completely evaporate. Back then, I was baffled. If I asked about it, I was given evasive answers and hustled out into the back yard with my toy saxophone. Fortunately, the old lady next door was deaf, because it took a couple of months before I (inevitably) dropped the toy saxophone on the flagstones of the yard and broke it. A substitute had to be found to satisfy my musical desires. I was given a tennis raquet, and told that this was “my guitar”. It was my favorite toy for two years, miming along to tunes on the radio and the record player. That tennis racket was a winner all round. The family got peace and quiet, and I was happy. I’m still happy, and I am now a professional guitarist. My hobby? I play the saxophone …
