Insurance for New Car

Recently I was in a car accident and my car was pretty new still and I thought that I had enough insurance to cover any damages should they occur. Then come to find out that you need some sort of insurance that covers what you still owe on the car and what the insurance company will cover you for if your vehicle is totaled. Now I am wondering if I should have this coverage for all of my vehicles. If I were to get in a car accident, motorcycle accident, truck accident or any thing to my body, I want to make sure that everything is covered.
